Established in 1264, Fabriano is the oldest paper mill in Europe. It is located in the homonymous town of Fabriano which is 45 minutes from Ancona, a charming town overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The paper mill not only invented the filigree (still used today on paper and banknotes) and the surface collature (dear to all watercolorists), the city was also recognized in 2013 as a UNESCO creative city.
